Some viewers think that commercials are very important and others do not. As a person who thinks commercials are useless, I like to fast forward through them, seeing as how I don't buy products based on what celebrities are selling, but rather on their quality

. But for some people, commercials have a substantial impact in terms of what they consider or buy. Ads target young adults and children in particular because the companies hope to create an impressionable audience with money to spend.

Advertising also targets society's subconscious through subliminal advertising, which is very effective because a person cannot control what they are consciously aware of. It also makes feel good because if we spend money on something that makes us feel good we'll want to make that feeling happen again and again.

This can sometimes lead down a slippery slope where people begin to perceive themselves as lacking something or doing without when in reality they just need to realize the impact advertisements have on them. This results in people trying things they wouldn't normally try, like weight loss pills and other products deemed unhealthy.

In addition to the negative influence television may have on its viewers, it also has positive characteristics as well. Television shows are sometimes educational.
